Jose is an exceptional founding engineer with proven 0→1 product delivery, real-time systems expertise (WebRTC, sub-200ms latency), and infrastructure scaling experience across AWS/GCP—all critical for the FAA's $875M air traffic control modernization. His background in emergency response systems (FEMA, NIST), geospatial analysis, and distributed systems at scale directly addresses the domain challenges of sequencing 40K flights daily. However, he lacks explicit aerospace/aviation domain experience and the deep systems reliability background (e.g., avionics, formal verification, safety-critical systems) typically required for FAA-critical infrastructure.

Hook: Your founding engineer experience building real-time systems at scale and emergency response infrastructure for FEMA positions you uniquely to tackle the FAA's air traffic optimization challenge.

Missing: Aerospace/aviation domain knowledge, Safety-critical systems experience, Formal verification methods, FAA regulatory compliance background, Flight management systems domain expertise

Hey HN! Air Space Intelligence (https://www.airspace-intelligence.com) is hiring in Boston. We're a frontier AI and product company for critical industries and defense, backed by a16z.

Last week, the FAA awarded us a 12-year, $875M contract to build FMDS and SMART - the flow-management and airspace optimization systems that will become the technological backbone of the FAA's Air Traffic Control. What we ship in the next two years will define how this country moves through the sky for the next fifty.

At the core is one of the largest real-time optimization problems in the world: how do you safely sequence ~40,000 flights/day while routing around weather, military airspace, equipment outages, and constant real-world churn? The system has to be right every time, and reliable at scale.

We're hiring across Backend, Infrastructure, and Frontend (ICs and Tech Leads).

One of our roles (with a small puzzle at the bottom that routes to my email): https://www.airspace-intelligence.com/careers/role?=1336c828... — include "HackerNews" in the subject so I can prioritize.

If you want a problem that is genuinely hard, consequential, and urgent — this is the moment to reach out.
